Sofia, Bulgaria....over 1 million inhabitants and I knew nothing of the Bulgarian language. The four day pass was great after a 6 hour buss ride, which started at 2:30am. The hotel was great and the city even better. I spent my time visiting several 4th and 6th century churches, flee markets full of old WW I and II trinkets, parks with chess players, local musicians and of course I found a farmers market with a few local pubs near by. The Bulgarian beer was oh so good, yummmm. By the end of my pass I learned from a cab driver how to say hello, bye and thank you (blagodarjia). I would visit Sofia again.
